Choosing not to retire

There have been a lot of news stories of late that have focused on how the shabby state of the economy has forced many seasoned employees to delay retirement or not to retire at all. While this is no doubt newsworthy, it does overshadow another story - many seasoned workers are putting off retirement, often indefinitely, not because of financial circumstances, but simply because they love what they do and they have the vitality to do it.

So why aren’t we hearing more about those of you who choose to keep working, whether it’s continuous or a new post-retirement work experience? Or those who have found a fulfilling calling in volunteering their time? The media are slow to challenge the concept of retirement and the realization that it’s changing. Enter the blogosphere.

It’s through people like you, people who have chosen to work well beyond their “retirement years”, and your stories that will ultimately challenge the perception of retirement as an end. We are looking for some inspiring stories from readers who have either continued to work or who have embarked on a new post-career path. Send us your story at info@myrehirement.com.
